“We tell ourselves stories in order to live.” ~Joan Didion
Storytelling is a necessity of life. This is a record of my stories–from the stories in my mind to the stories of my day whether it comes out as prose or (more often) a bullet point list.
As for my backstory:
I’m a Midwestern girl who ended up in DC through several bizarre twists of fate, and I remain here three years later due to fate’s continuing tornado-like interferance in my life. I love the city–the crowded streets at rush hour, the plethora of cuisine options offered in various neighborhoods, the cultural and intellectual stimulation, running an afternoon’s worth of errands without ever getting in a car, and the almost constant state of discovery that comes with new places and people. Most of the time I manage to even overlook the politics of it all.
The realization that I am now closer to 30 than I am to 20 has given me pause lately. Not a sense of dread, so much as the overarching knowledge that there is still so much to learn. Instead of succumbing to a potential quarter-life crisis, I’ve elected to pursue my Master’s in Library Science, begin writing a novel, attempt to read 100 books in a year, re-learn the “how to” of using a sewing machine, and become a goddess in the kitchen. Although I would settle for four out out of five.
This is my journey. These are my stories.
